Studying Abroad with EAP

So I've never been one to keep a blog or anything of the sort... but I figured this would probably be as good a reason as any to start.
I have wanted to study abroad for as long as I can remember, so here is where you will get to read about my adventures as I take the leap and study abroad in Lyon, France!
Wish me luck and be sure to keep in touch :) and maybe even leave a comment now and then so I can see who's actually reading this!

Bonne Annee et Bonne Sante!

aka: Happy New Year!

ok so i got really sick right the day after new years, and then a little bit lazy as i was recovering, and then i took off for milan, so this is a little bit late.. but anyways..

i can't believe its already 2011, the year i turn 21, and the year i return back to the states.. ok lets not think about that last one seeing as its not happening for another five and a half months. and i am sure some of you are saying it doesn't matter if i'm 21 because i am in france, but can we please remember that come june it willlll matter? k thanks. haha

2010 was pretty exciting. here are some of highlights:
i just found out i would be going to france.
got a work study job that payed well and i actually enjoyed
left my teen years behind
got two more piercings
finished my years as a lower classmen at santa cruz
had the laziest summer ever due to the shortest summer ever making it impossible to get a job
moved to france!
visited lots of new places
improved my french

new years resolutions:
try harder to make french friends.
speak french the entire year. meaning even when i am back in the states. meaning mom, i think we should speak french when i return so that i can keep it in my system (but there is no need to start this while i am still in france. haha)

but what did i do for new years?
well for new years eve i went to this dance club/bar which was actually pretty fun. it had a big countdown going until midnight, and once it was midnight it started to say 'happy new year' which i thought was pretty funny because it was in english.. though maybe that is less surprising since the bar was called sound factory (also in english)? who knows. it was a pretty fun evening though.

new years day i arrived back at my host parents house and rested for a bit before a very nice lunch that my host mom put on. oysters were served.. though i declined because my host dad had had me try them the day or two before, and i had discovered i am really not a big fan of oysters. but hey, i told myself i would try everything at least once. it was a rather enjoyable lunch and i also loved that i was able to keep up with the conversation the entire time. i love when i can really notice my progress. though i think it helped that it was just my host parents, my host brother (marc-philippe), and my host dad's mom (she is always slightly harder for me to understand)... ok so i guess i understood almosttt everything. when there are a lot more people (at christmas for example) it is harder for me to keep up.

after lunch, it was nap time because studying was supposed to follow since i would be leaving for milan in a day and a half and finals are the week after i return... it wasn't until much later that night that i got really sick and the whole studying the whole day before i left plan fell through. but hey, i was mostly better and able to hit the road by monday morning anyways. my host mom really does know how to make a person get better :)

  1. I can speak french with you too - although that might be less helpful.
