finals. not fun in any language. i still had 2 left, both psychology. both were 45 minutes. a 45 minute test for an entire semesters grade. ridiculous right?
i also had both tests the same day. developmental was at 8 am (oh boy!) and social was at 12.
so chloe and i got to bron at 7:40 with plenty of time to spare. we went to the bathroom, then waited outside the classroom. finally we were allowed to go in. we were getting settled, writing our name and the appropriate subject on our answer sheet. this is where things started to go wrong. we looked around and the subject on our papers didn't match the subject on other students' papers. what did we do? we got up quickly, verified with the professor that we were in the wrong spot, and scrambled to figure out where we were supposed to be starting our test at that very moment. why were we in the wrong spot? oh yknow, because we thought we were supposed to be in our normal classroom. and because when chloe had emailed the professor to verify the time and location of our exam, she had simply responded yes, we had the information correct. luckily it only took us a couple minutes to find someone who could help us figure out where we were actually supposed to be, at which point we sprinted to the other side of campus walking in 10 minutes late. luckily the professor in charge let us in and handed us our tests to finish. it was also lucky neither of us actually needed the full 45 minutes, because i don't think we would have actually been given extra time.
this test consisted of one question. and it wasn't allowed to be more than 15 lines. which in my opinion was completely ridiculous and i actually went over a little bit (i'm hoping it doesn't hurt my grade too much) and even by going over, i still didn't give as much information as i had wanted. and i even wrote extra small! for any of you who know about mary ainsworth and the strange situation, that is what the question is about. now you try to explain what the point of the experiment is, the protocol for the experiment, and the four categories the situation produces all in 15 lines. good luck. oh and try to do it in a language you still are completely fluent in. pretty sure i made up a verb or two.. i know i mixed up one or two things in my answer, but overall i actually walked out feeling pretty good about it. we'll see how that translates into a grade though!
my social psych final was a different matter. once again i found out that i didn't actually know where my final would be, but this time i had enough warning to be able to figure it out before the exam actually started. turns out it was actually in the same place as my first final! (by the end of the day i had walked all the way from one end of campus to the other and back, fun not knowing where your exams are right? oh. and it was raining too.) anyways. this final didn't go quite so well. it was four questions in 45 minutes again. they only wanted short answers so that doesn't sound so bad right? well two questions were from the first half of the class and two from the second half (two for each professor that we had). well, i had been feeling pretty confident at least about the first half of the class because i already had learned about most of it back in santa cruz. well things didn't quite go as planned. turns out i could only answer one question from each section. and my bs answers for the other two werent even close. OF COURSE they had to choose the one obscure name i didn't know in the first part. and something smaller in the second part. i really hate finals, and this is why.
bright side? i'm done with finals! i have finished a full semester in france and reallyyyy hope i at least passed everything. but whatever. it's done. nothing i can do about it now.
now i have 4 1/2 lovely days in lyon with no school responsibilities. then i will head to spain for a week. and then i will have another week in lyon still before the new semester starts!
oh and big sales start tomorrow. maybe i'll actually find a peacoat and some boots that don't let my feet get all wet when its raining :)
I want to be you...you blog is very well written and heartfelt. I am glad you are living it to the fullest and i hope everything goes well for you in the second semester!

i think i told you that, in my quarter with the most irregular schedule, i once showed up for a midterm as it was ending. the prof let me take it anyway. so.......... it's all heredity
ReplyDeletedoes that mean i'm in trouble?? i'm very worried about how i'm capable of turning of my alarm without any recollection. it's not a good finals skill.
